i have built this site to provide a place for new coaches to find information on 8 man football. I have spent
several years and thousands of hours researching, and building my own philosophy and playbook. first of all my philosophy
on coaching. very simple. 3 things first you must be able to motivate your players in a positive manner, and get them
to believe in themselves. secondly you must use the talent you have. You cannot take the smallest team in your league run
i formation power football and expect to win many games. figure out what you have and use it, you might have to get creative.
finally conditioning is key, as well is the perfection of individual techniques at playing positions.
offensive philosophy, must be designed around the talent you have! rules spread the defense out, use different formations.
establish the threat of the pass thus forcing the defense to play the entire field. I use the threat of the pass to set up
the run. My qb has specific plan- Uncovered man( no one within 10 yards) quick pass. drop look for wide open reciever. look
for running lane if none scramble look for open reciever hit relief valve or run. i teach my qb to always look for a wide
open running lane if its there he takes that first. You should pass 60% of the time while gaining 60% of your yards from the
run. for every look we give the defense we have several plays that can result, and we use all of them at some point, this
keeps them from cheating. create a numerical mismatch at the point of attack. Play a little game ot whose got the
ball, i demand excellence in fakes- sending backs in different directions forcing the defense to cover both backs and
throw in some pass threats off this. keep the defense guessing and hit them where their weak. decieve, dircect, dictate,
then dominate.
Defense i try to keep defense simple. first have mor thatn one defense you use so the other coach doesnt
make adjustments to beat you- make them without having to make personnell changes. this will require at least a couple smart
kids that learn more than one postion. make assignments simple. blitz and stunt often. personaly i like the 3-2 monster, and
4-2.
to the right i have listed some links. they are wonderful resources. coachers covers the 8 man game pretty well. as does
the defense site, and coaches corner. the kansas site isnt 8 man per say but is good with lots of excellent links. and th
11 man playbook has a wealth of knowledge about philosophies and plays that can be converted to 8 man.

NOW FOR SOME TERMINOLOGY
ZIP- BACK GOES IN MOTION TOWARD THE LINE, BALL IS HIKED JUST BEFORE REACHING THE EDGE OF LINE.
ZOOM- BACK GOES IN MOTION ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE LINE.
MACK THIS IS SHORT FOR MOTION ATTACK. MOTION SAME AS ZIP, WHE BALL IS HIKED BACK CROSSES THE LINE AND SLAMS INTO THE
DEFENSIVE END HITTING HIM LIKE A "MACK" TRUCK.
LEAD- IN A LEAD ONE BACK LEADS THE OTHER BACK THROUGH THE HOLE.
DIVE- IN A DIVE THE BACK WILL BE GOING THROUGH THE HOLE WITHOUT A LEAD BLOCKER.
BLAST- I A BLAST THE LINEMAN TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOLE CALLED BLOCKS MOMENTARILY THEN SCRAPES UPFIELD LOOKING TO BLOCK
IN ON THE LINEBACKER, JUST AS HE MOVES THE LEADING BACK COMES BARRELLING THROUGH JUST OFF THE LINEMANS BUTT AND BLASTS THE
DEFENDER OUT OF THE HOLE.
pass routes i like letters to represent routes better than numbers, the pass play pop woul indicate from right to left
the reciever would run post, out, post.
my routes:
A-ARROW
B-BENCH
C-CHAIR
D-DRAG
F-FADE
G-GO
H-HITCH
I-IN
O-OUT
P-POST
R-RELIEF VALVE
S-SLANT
MY RELIEF VALVE IS A LATE TIMED ROUTE WHERE THE PERSON BLOCKS AND THEn AFTER PREDETERMINED AMOUNT OF TIME RELEASES
BLOCK AND DROPS INTO THE FLAT AREA.
